The Rent Is Too Damn High

I was going to blog about the nightmare I had about my 14 year old cousin behind the wheel of car, but I had to shove that aside to make way for this awesomeness that I caught on the news last night.

Mr. Jimmy McMillan and his "The Rent Is Too Damn High" Party. And yes, this is a legitimate party recognized by the State of New York. So legitimate that the man is running for Governor of NY. This is such an awesome piece of news that I'm not even going to take any more of your time by having you actually read the post. Just head on over here and watch for yourself...

AWESOMENESS!!!!!!

Transformers 3

Yesterday on my way home from work, I saw 2 DC Police cruisers and HUGE Chevy Suburban Police Trucks speed down the street. What was unusual about the convoy were the extra pimped out Chevy trucks. The wheels on those monsters had to be about at least 32 inches.

This morning while dropping my cousin off at the bus station, some random men refused to let me enter the lot. Turns out Transformers 3 is being filmed in town and they happen to be storing their goodies on the lot. Below are a few pics I managed to snap:

These are the 2 pimped out "Police Trucks" that came flying down the street yesterday.

I also heard on the news yesterday that Bumble Bee ran into a real DC Police cruiser :(

Columbus Day Punishment?

Note to self: Get a Federal Government job asap.

Because if I had a government job, I would be sleeping along with all those federal employees who don’t have to go to work today because it’s a recognized holiday. But I don’t, I work for an employer which doesn’t recognize Columbus Day as a holiday. So instead, I woke up [an hour late- not by choice, I just couldn't wake up; actually I woke up about 2 minutes before my alarm was scheduled to go off to TURN IT OFF so I could sleep for 5 more minutes which turned into an hour] dragged myself out the bed and got ready for work. As I got to work, a volunteer at the welcome desk questioned me as to whether or not I was an employee. WHAT??!!! No, I’m not an employee, I just like to show up to random workplaces on holidays because I don’t have anything better to do with my life and besides it makes me look cool.

Anyway, I got to the office and found my lovely blue box sitting on my desk. What is a blue box you ask? Well, a blue box is a very special blue box that is sent out to existing customers by the lovely folks over at 4imprint Inc. which contains free promotional item samples. This time, I received a travel mug, a pen/highlighter combo and hand sanitizer. I've also received several other samples in past blue boxes- numerous tote bags, pens, mouse pads, pencils, pocket mirrors, calculators, koozies, lunch boxes, calendars, sport bottles, mini tape measure, some very random stuff, etc etc.

Some free stuff I've received in the past.

Two thumbs up for freebies, yay!

What is worse...

Than women who refuse to stop gossiping?

There is a difference between having a conversation and speaking in a soft voice because you don’t want disturb other working people and whispering because you are gossiping and you don't want other people to hear you! Guess what? I CAN STILL HEAR YOU and it's quite distracting. Take that tomfoolery out the door.

Life in Russia- 100 years ago (in color!)

I stumbled onto this link and I am just so amazed that I had to share the link. Those pictures are one word - FANTASTIC!

Call me whatever but I didn't even know color photography was available back then. Check it out.

Getting to work...or not.

I am a bit frazzled this morning. It’s taken me 2.5 hours to get to work. Now before I rant any further, let me give you a brief overview of my weekly commute to and from work. My job doesn’t have ample parking on site and therefore most employees have to park at the various off site parking locations. Living in Alexandria, the closest parking garage to me is Union Station which is EXACTLY 14 miles away from my house. The drive from my house is about 30 minutes in moderate traffic (but taking my awesome driving skills and Maxi into consideration, it can take me around 20 minutes to get there at times). I then catch the shuttle which runs every 10 minutes or 20, depending on which stop you catch it at. The drive from the last stop to my job is between 10 and 15 minutes depending on rush hour traffic.

Cut to “rainy” days (and I use the word rainy very very loosely). I just can’t wrap my mind around how traffic becomes such a nightmare at the least amount of precipitation. I have a few theories as to why this happens:

  1. People think they (as well as their cars) are salt and they’re afraid of melting?
  2. 95% of MARYLAND drivers are idiots- but that’s a given on any day.
  3. Someone, I’m assuming the government, issues everyone with cars on rainy days.
  4. There is a special place that only opens on rainy days and therefore people must get to this place? Kind of a you-snooze-you-loose situation. Gotta drop everything you’re doing and go to this special place or else you are out of luck.
  5. People are really fascinated by rain while driving and really want to take it all in so they drive as slowly as possible not to miss a thing.

To make matters worse, I forgot to fill my tank before I hit the road and of course the low gas indicator lit up. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue but as my luck will have it, I didn’t have my GPS with me which lead to immediate panic because I had no idea where the nearest gas station was! I then said a silent prayer- actually I said many prayers and the Good Lord heard my prayers. So 2.5 hours and 14 miles later, I am now at work. I just pray that rest of my day week is uneventful.

Lunch

I had the most delicious lunch ever! I had this sandwich:

Picture borrowed from here

Corner Bakery Turkey Frisco, pickle wedge, bag of chips and an ice cold coke.

The deliciousness can be attributed to one of the following:

1. I was REALLY hungry.
2. It wasn't cafeteria food.
3. It had some of my favorite things: sun dried tomatoes, spinach, provolone cheese, asiago cheese bread.
4. Best of all, it was F.R.E.E.!

I devoured that bad boy with a smile on my face. Now back to work.

A Few Things on My Mind Today...

1. I just wish that the media would stop giving that idiot hick man (I refuse to refer to him as a pastor for the obvious reasons) who is planning on burning a Quran so much publicity. So much energy is being spent on that foolishness. I just wish the government could step in and arrest him or something but alas- the First Amendment.

2. Ghanaians [specifically those in Ghana] and phone etiquette: Scenario
Caller: Good afternoon can I speak with XYZ
Me: Hi, sorry XYZ is busy at the moment but I will let them know you called and have them call you back when they get some time.
Caller: Ok, I will call back in an hour.
Me confused and thinking: Errrr no, how about you DON'T CALL BACK IN AN HOUR. They will call you when they are good and ready.
Me: Well I'm not sure XYZ will be done in an hour so I will let XYZ know you called and have XYZ call you when they are done with what they are doing.
Caller: Ok.
True to their word, this person calls back exactly one hour later. Of course XYZ was still busy so I just ignored they call and they called back 3 MORE TIMES, BACK.TO.BACK. Sigh.

3. To all those people who were wishing for cooler weather, EAT YOUR FRIGGIN HEARTS OUT. Personally, I was hoping summer would stick around a little longer so I can complete all my summer MUST DO activities.

4. My phone only rings while I'm away from my desk, never when I'm at my desk and I'm terrible at checking messages. I just don't enjoy the task of having to play and listen to a voice mail especially when the voice mail happens to be the sound of someone hanging up the phone on the other end.

Neglected Blog??

Absolutely NOT!

Excuse me while I use my trusty Swiffer Duster® to clean off all this nasty accumulated e-dust off my webspace.

Hello world! Again… I realize I’ve been gone for far too long. A combination of summer (yay), work, and personal life has taken up most of my time hence my long absence.

Anyway, I’ve had thoughts of abandoning this blog but my conscience just wouldn’t let me. Well that and questions from a fellow blogger as to when I will start blogging again. So here I am, bloggin’ away. Because I realize how much of a ‘sucky’ blogger I am, I’m going to start with baby steps by trying to post at least once a week. Keywords, BABY STEPS and TRYING. There is so much going on with work and outside of work that I have no idea where the days have been flying off to! I cannot believe that we are at the end of August already, makes no sense.

I have an event coming up this weekend which means I will have something to write about, woo hoo! Hope all goes well. Wishing you all a good weekend!

12:06pm

Edited to add:

Goodness, I'm just so proud of myself for actually posting an entry today! I'm patting myself on the back.

Also, GROUPON is amazing! Got a movie ticket for $4 yesterday.

Elastic Things

I just had an epiphany- I HAVE A FEAR OF ELASTIC THINGS- especially BALLOONS AND RUBBER BANDS. Is there a name for that phobia? I'm constantly afraid that they are gonna break and POP me in the face! This is just by the way/random rant.

Pardon my absence

It's been close to 2 weeks since my last post.

Ok, so I started typing this post about 4 hours ago......

Back to my story...

It's been close to about 2 weeks since my last entry and A LOT has happened since then. This is just part of what went on while I was away.

I took a quick weekend trip to Miami for my friend L’s birthday and oh what a weekend it was. The 3 of us reunited again after our college days was pretty bleeping awesome. Yes it was, yes it was! It was like our Melrose Apartment days all over again! I miss those days :( Because this is a PG blog, I won’t go into the details of what happened in Miami, or at Melrose apartment 2514. Anyway, we stayed at this fantastic resort- if you are ever in the area and need somewhere to stay away from the insanity that is south beach, you know where to go.

So on the flight back to DC on Monday, I had the pleasure? of sitting next to this nice lady who announced to those of us sitting next to her that she was traveling with her grandmother. No biggie, or so I thought. I found it a little odd 15 minutes into the flight when grandma was no where to be found- so being the curious person that I am, I asked her why she wasn’t sitting next to her grandma… THIS LADY POINTS TO THE FLOOR AND SAYS GRANDMA DOESN’T NEED A SEAT BECAUSE SHES DEAD! Whaaaaaaaattttttt?? So she was flying the corpse back to VT I think so they could have the funeral. I also found out that grandma died at 10pm the night before. This lady made jokes the whole time about her dead grandma and later said its okay to make jokes about her dead grandma because she was old, and they knew it was coming. Grandma was 90. RIP grandma. THIS STORY WAS JUST BTW.

Arrived in DC at 7:58 and got home close to 11pm (I live 30 minutes away from the airport) because being the super smart young lady that I am… you know what? It doesn’t even matter what time I got home, the important thing is, I got home safe and got right back into the nitty gritty of work on Tuesday for the final prep for my event on Thursday and Friday. The event went well for the most part, minus the one MAJOR glitch, but overall, it went well. I patted myself on the back for a job *well* done.

I am very relieved that this event is over, but now it’s on to the next one, granted this next one doesn’t require as much work as the other. I plan on taking things slow this week as I am still EXHAUSTED from last week.

On this episode of COPS

Yesterday, I inadvertently walked in on 2 cops apprehending a suspect with guns pulled out and everything. Too much DRAMA in DC.

Taxes, Pollen and some other random stuff

I owe taxes this year. I owe both the federal and state government. 13-inch MacBook Pro. Sigh. Why didn’t someone tell me I should be claiming 0 and not 1?? Arghhhhhhhh. I have immediately changed my status with HR. I will not be making the same mistake come next year. We’ll see who will be paying who next year- yes I’m talking about YOU federal and state government!

4000 grains/pores per cubic meter- that is how much pollen there is in the air right now. On a scale of 0 – 12, we are currently at 11.3 which means that people with allergy issues are pretty miserable right now. Everything is covered in pollen, EVERYTHING. Thankfully, we are projected to receive some heavy rain tonight which will bring some relief to all, including cars, especially mine. Between the combination of mud, salt, dust and now pollen, that zoom zoom is DIRTY. So dirty my cousins took pleasure in writing me ‘cute’ messages on my car when I stopped by their house to for a visit.

Anyway, things have settled down a bit this morning in the office from the last 2 days. I have only 2 things scheduled on my calendar…aaahhh bliss. Today is Thursday which means I will be seeing my kids today- all 10 of them. I can’t wait to hear what stories adventures Buddy will be telling me about today, should be fun.

Well I'm off to go complete one task on my calendar.

Where did yesterday go?

Yesterday, I got to the office at 9am. Had 2 separate meetings regarding 2 HUGE events that I'm coordinating. Got back to my desk, blinked 3 times and next thing I knew, it was 5pm and time to go home. Got 2 major things accomplished for both events while answering what seemed like 50,000 emails and phone calls that came through: got the final draft of the booklet DONE for my upcoming event on the 22nd, and received the finished brochure from the designer for the other event in August. Exciting.

My VERY first blog entry, yay!

HELLOOOOOOOOOO WORLD!!!!!!!

Welcome to my blog. I have NO CLUE how this blog is going to turn out because I have never blogged before so I am just going to go with the flow and see what happens. Wish me luck!

PS- a big thanks to Mr. Antirythm for encouraging me to start this blog.
